THINK HEALTHY IN YOUR MIND
Experts say to have a fit and healthy lifestyle start from the mind. As a psychologist myself I second that statement and in addition to it i would say, that if you want to sustain a healthy way of life it has to start from the mind.
Before we begin let me clarify what I mean when I say start healthy from the mind.
If there is a constant clash between what you think and how you act you won’t be able to sustain that behaviour for too long it becomes like a forced action. At the end of it either you change the way you think our your action or behaviour changes and becomes in sync with what you think. So before you head to the gym start thinking in your mind about how you would feel when you work out in a positive way, how sweating it out will help you look fitter.
In one of the training modules we tried an activity with our clients where before they join a gym or started with any activity. We ask them to imagine themselves ten years down the line how they would look or feel with the way they are leading their lives currently and then how they would look or feel if they added an activity in their lifestyle. The imagination shows a stark readiness of the client to add the activity with lesser or no excuses to avoid them.
“Mostly clients feel younger, fitter, happier and more confident when they imagine themselves ten years down the line after the addition of a physical activity. This is why most lifestyle coaches would say prepare your mind before you prepare your body.”
The same training module explained above can be used for any healthy modification in your lifestyle. It could be changing your diet, starting regular walks, waking up early, having green tea. For absolutely anything. The point to be remembered is change your thought before changing your action.
Another instance where this can be applied to is when you take a lazy day off from your activity. To avoid a gym holiday think how you would feel when you exercise, the rise in energy levels, the freshness in your mind, the creativity in your day, and not just think it, feel it. One the feeling sets in there will be absolutely no reason for a gym holiday.
